Frequently asked questions
Daily BTC = (Hashrate in H/s × 86,400 seconds × Block Reward) ÷ (Network Difficulty × 2³²). This is the canonical formula used across all major mining calculators. Revenue in USD = Daily BTC × BTC Price. This calculator fetches the live network difficulty and BTC price so the result reflects current conditions.
Mining pools charge a fee (typically 1-3%) on your gross revenue for operating the pool infrastructure, distributing payouts, and providing the coordination layer. The fee is deducted from your gross revenue before subtracting electricity costs to give you true net profit.
Electricity is usually the dominant operating cost for Bitcoin miners. At $0.05/kWh, a 3,500W miner costs about $4.20/day. At $0.12/kWh, the same miner costs $10.08/day, which can eliminate most or all profit at current difficulty levels. Finding cheap power is the single most important factor after hardware efficiency.
Network difficulty is a measure of how hard it is to find a valid block hash. It adjusts approximately every 2,016 blocks (about 2 weeks) to maintain a 10-minute average block time. When more miners join the network, difficulty rises. When miners leave, difficulty falls. This calculator uses the live difficulty from the blockchain.
Efficiency is measured in joules per terahash (J/TH). In 2025, competitive miners use 15-20 J/TH. The Bitmain Antminer S21 runs at about 17.5 J/TH. Older hardware at 30-50 J/TH is difficult to run profitably except with very cheap electricity.
Home mining is rarely profitable in 2025 due to high residential electricity rates ($0.10-0.20/kWh), loud noise from ASIC fans, and heat management challenges. Industrial miners with access to power at $0.03-0.05/kWh have a structural cost advantage. Home miners sometimes run in cold climates to offset heating costs.
